Whistler Independent Book Awards 2018 Now Open

Whistler Independent Book Awards

The prestigious literary award recognizing excellence in Canadian independent publishing returns for a third year. The Whistler Independent Book Awards (WIBAs) are open to Canadian authors or permanent residents who have self-published a book or books in the last six years. The competition invites entries in two categories, fiction and non-fiction, and the winner of each will be announced at the 17th Whistler Writers Festival in October.

Eligible authors can submit their entries to the Whistler Independent Book Awards until April 30, 2018. Submissions can be made via www.vivalogue.com, with information about the Whistler Writers Festival at www.whistlerwritersfest.com. All entries will be evaluated and authors not shortlisted will receive a written assessment from the nomination committee. Canadian Authors-Metro Vancouver members will select the finalists from the shortlist. Finalists will receive a significant prize package, including national book distribution, and will be invited to attend several Festival events, with free tickets to the popular Literary Cabaret, where the winners will be announced.

Returning judges for the fiction category are Gail Anderson-Dargatz and Darcie Friesen Hossack, with JJ Lee and Susan Oakey-Baker selecting the winner in the non-fiction category.

Jointly produced by the Whistler Writing Society and Vivalogue Publishing, the Whistler Independent Book Awards are the only juried Canadian awards for self-published authors.
